From Reactivity to Regulation:
A Somatic DBT Group for Emotional Balance
March 25, 2026; 6-7:30pm; 6-weeks
This 6-week, in-person therapy group is designed to help adults move from emotional overwhelm or shutdown toward greater balance and embodiment. This 90-minute closed group blends Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) emotion regulation skills, mindfulness practices, and a structured somatic framework to support you learn to notice, identify, feel, and regulate your emotions.
When we are not aware of our emotions somatically, they manifest in dysfunctional ways. Depression, anxiety, mania, and dissociation are all ways the brain attempts to manage emotion when you do not know how to notice the sensations of your emotions somatically and express and regulate them in healthy ways.
Each session includes grounding practices, practical psychoeducation, guided movement-based exercises, and experiential reflection to help participants build emotional awareness and nervous system regulation in real time.
Is this group for me?
This group is ideal for adults (18+) who feel easily triggered or flooded by emotions, tend to shut down or disconnect when emotions arise, or find themselves intellectualizing feelings without fully experiencing them in their body. It is especially helpful for individuals seeking to build greater emotional awareness, tolerance, reduce reactivity, and stay present during emotional challenges.
The following are indicators that you could benefit from improved emotional regulation skills:
Everything is ‘fine’
“Snapping” at your partner, friends, children, or coworkers
Fidning yourslef irritated
Experiencing shutdown or overwhelm in response to your emotions
Unable to communicate what you feel (name your emotions) even to people you trust
Not knowing the somatic sensations that correspond with your emotions
Needing other people to change so you can feel better
Regularly using food, sex, masturbation, shopping, or substances to cope with your emotions or help you feel more relaxed
Not knowing how to feel your emotions in ways that result in lasting relief and/or calm, especially when your emotions are ‘big’
Having little to no desire for pleasure or interests
Overworking
Bouts of mania
Identifying your emotions as ‘stress’ and managing that stress with anything other than feeling your emotions.
This group may not be appropriate for individuals experiencing active suicidal intent, acute crisis, or active substance dependence requiring higher levels of care.
what to expect
Over six weeks, participants can expect to develop increased emotional awareness, improved nervous system regulation, and a greater capacity to experience authentic emotions without becoming overwhelmed or shut down. Through arousal tracking, gentle movement, guided reflection, and practical take-home exercises, members will learn to stay with sensations without escalating into distress, identify emotions, apply DBT skills to real-life situations, learn how to feel and process emotions in healthy ways, and strengthen present-moment awareness.
Participants leave each session with simple daily practices to support continued growth between meetings, building skills that enhance emotional balance, self-connection, and interpersonal relationships.
This group is led by psychotherapist Noel Estopinal, MA, LPCC. She is passionate about supporting folks identify and regulate emotions in healthy ways that foster self-trust, greater ease in living, and improved relationships.
